The Appellate Division froze a High Court order that suspended the
industries ministry’s permission to the Association of Ship Recycling in
Bangladesh (ASRB) for importing and recycling old ships.
The bench headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha issued the stay
order on Monday disposing of a petition filed by ASRB. Association lawyer
Shahriar Kabir said after the latest order, there is no bar to importing,
breaking, and processing of rundown ships.
The industries ministry awarded ASRB the permission in December last year
to import, break, and process old ships. A High Court bench stayed the
permission on Jan 5 this year for three months after the Ship Breakers
Association challenged its legality, according to bdnews24.com.
