The City Council agreed unanimously Tuesday to begin
demolition of two Columbus ships.
The Pinta and the Santa Maria's condition has simply
outrun the ability to fix them, according to staff and volunteers associated
with restoring the three ships.
The City Manager will oversee the demolition project.
But first, parts of those ships will go to whatever is
needed on the Nina, which will greatly help restoration efforts on that ship.
After that, the public will get a chance to buy parts
of the two ships before the final demolition process.
The plaza surrounding the Nina will be rebuilt, to include
a playground.
