A shipbreaking worker died from injury
sustained while working in a yard at Sitakunda in Chittagong yesterday
afternoon.
The deceased was identified as
Mohammad Aziz, 32, son of Nurul Alam, of Moheshkhali in Cox's Bazar.
Sub-Inspector Jahirul Islam, in-charge
of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Police Outpost, said Aziz
suddenly slipped on the stair and fell to the platform while working at the
shipbreaking yard, S Trading Corporation, around 1:00pm.
Seriously injured Aziz was rushed to
the CMCH where doctors declared him dead around after one and a half hours.
With this, nine such accidents have
occurred in shipbreaking yards this year, in which nine people have died.
Last year, 11 workers died in similar
accidents, sources said.
