GMS report on China shipbreaking industry for WEEK 28 of 2012:

Following the sales of the 1997 built SHAGANG SUNRISE (24,896 LDT) and 1995 built Stellar Fortune, it emerged this week that NYK have sent a third vessel from their over-aged capesize fleet to be dismantled. The TAHAROA EXPRESS (18,348 LDT) was confirmed sold for guaranteed green recycling into China for LISD 352/LT LDT.

The market remained steady for another week with rates fixed firmly around the USD 340-350/LT LDT range on drv vessels, with some LISD 20/LT LDT premium available for wet tonnage.

With summer season now fully under way and many yards already full from the early part of the year, the buying has slowed somewhat despite no real let up in the number of candidates being proposed and the number of deals still there to be done.
