Man drowns trying to reach stranded MV Wisdom!

A man drowned at Mumbai's Juhu beach while trying to get close to stranded ship MV Wisdom for a picture on Friday.

The merchant ship has been stranded at the beach for about two weeks after it drifted to the spot while being tugged for being scrapped at Gujarat's Alang shipbreaking yard.

The incident exposes the concerned authorities' neglect as they did not secure the area despite the danger the ship's presence poses to the public beach.

The vessel has been a major draw for onlookers, not just from Mumbai but even for outsiders. Ever since it ran aground at Juhu beach, the sand around the ship has reportedly shifted leading to a sudden depth in the sea around it close to the beach.

There have been reports in the last few days about more such incidents of near drowning. On June 19, four teenagers had to be rescued by private lifeguards and fire department personnel after they got too close to the 9,000-tonne ship.
