Bangladesh Govt to formulate environment-friendly shipbreaking industry policy:

The government has decided to formulate a policy for setting up an environment friendly ship breaking industry in the country.

“The Industry Ministry will formulate a policy for setting up an environment friendly ship-breaking industry soon,” said Industries Minister Dilip Barua at a function at the Dhaka Club Limited auditorium in the capital on Sunday.

‘Managing at the Top’ (MATT) course under the establishment ministry organised the programme on the eve of conclusion of a pilot project on air pollution and traffic congestion. The students of the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) implemented the project.

Considering the upcoming generation, the government has also decided not to provide any approval for setting up any industry which is harmful to public health, Dilip Barua said.

He said the government has been giving priority to setting up environment-friendly ‘Green Industries’ with a view to deconstructing an industry-based country.

“We will provide all-out support to the entrepreneurs to set up industries free from pollution and mishaps,” the minister said.

He urged the businessmen to come forward in reducing air pollution and traffic congestion in the city in keeping in mind their corporate responsibility to the society.

Dr. Pran Gopal Dutta, vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), read out the key-note paper on the session.

MATT-2 leader Tapan Kumar Nath chaired the programme.
