“Despite having a large-scale potential of light-engineering industry in the country, the industry has not boomed yet for lack of patronage and finance on part of the government,” he was told.

The entrepreneurs said it is possible to export light-engineering parts to the developed countries after meeting the demand of the country if the government provides proper patronage and finances this industry.

The light-engineering industry, a sub-sector of small and medium industries, makes products worth Tk 10,000 crore each year, the leaders of the organization mentioned.

After meeting the national demands, machinery and machinery parts worth US$ 311 million were exported to foreign countries in the past 2009-2010 fiscal year.
