The DGFASLI signed a memorandum of
understanding with the Gujarat Maritime Board on Thursday in order to bring
positive changes in the working conditions of employees in the ship recycling
industry.
NEW DELHI: The Directorate General
Factory Advice Service and Labour Institutes (DGFASLI) signed a memorandum of
understanding with the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) on Thursday in order to
bring positive changes in the working conditions of employees in the ship
recycling industry in Alang, Gujarat.
The MoU was signed in the presence of
Labour Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar, minister of state for labour Mansukh
Mandaviya and officials of the labour ministry.
The MOU will augment activities in the
field of occupational safety, especially in training of workers and supervisors
of yards in Alang.
It will also help in improving the
working conditions and quality of work life of workers, thereby improving the
image of the industry the world over. This will also contribute to the
prevention of occupational injuries and diseases.
“I hope the MoU will bring changes in
the working of the ship recycling industry and will enhance the safety and
health of a large number of workers and supervisors at Alang,” Gangwar said.
Mandviya highlighted the importance of
the industry and said that it provided employment to more than 25,000 workers
and reduces 80 per cent of rollable steel.
“The MoU will also help reduce the
prevalence of occupational diseases and injuries of the workers,” he said.
Senior officials of various ministries,
Gujarat Maritime Board and DGFASLI were present on the occasion.
