THE Provincial Board
approved during its regular session on Wednesday, July 26, the amended
ordinance creating the Negros Occidental Provincial Industrial Estate Office.
Fifth District Board Member
Alain Gatuslao, chairman of committee on laws, rules and ordinances, said they
already approved for first reading on July 5 the ordinance creating the
Southern Negros Industrial Estate. Gatuslao, however, said that upon reviewing
the requirements, Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. decided to prioritize the
creation of the office instead, and set aside first the estate.
“The previous ordinance
included provisions creating both the estate and office, but we need to have
first a body to work for the creation and supervision of the former," he
added.
The Negros Occidental
Provincial Industrial Estate Office will be composed of a department head,
assistant department head and project engineers, among other personnel.
They are existing employees
of the Provincial Government, who will just be transferred to the estate
office. Gatuslao said the office will also cater to locators who are planning
to invest in the southern portion of the province.
These include
the Japanese firm Tsuneishi Heavy Industries Inc., which will venture into the
construction of a ship recycling facility at Barangay Bacuyangan in Hinoba-an.
They will also handle
concerns of the stakeholders, including the development’s social and
environmental impacts, Gatuslao added.
