The city of Bonita Springs has issued a demolition permit for The Ship on
U.S. 41, a Bonita Springs landmark for two decades that will make way for a
commercial building.
A demolition permit has been issued for one of Bonita Springs' iconic
landmarks.
The ship that stands on U.S. 41 northbound at the Estero line will soon
be demolished to make way for a commercial building as part of a development
that will also include a senior housing facility.
Over the years, the ship has been home to a nightclub, a bingo parlor and
a series of restaurants, but it has stood empty since 2006 when the last
restaurant closed its doors. While empty, the building suffered from vandalism
and was defaced by taggers.
