GMS weekly report on Turkey ship breaking industry for WEEK 48 of 2014:

After months of continuously depreciating prices in Aliaga, hope finally appears on the horizon for Turkish breakers.

Despite the ongoing limited supply of demo vessels, with only a couple of units being delivered locally every (other) week, local steel plate prices improved by about USD 5 per MT, which is reportedly the first improvement after nearly two months of continuous declines.

As such, it appears that positivity maybe returning to the Turkish market with end buyers banking on further improvements. It now remains to be seen if end buyers will react immediately to such an improvement and start competing once again on market tonnage, thereby encouraging ship owners to re evaluate Aliaga as a final destination.
