KANNUR: Waste materials and pollutants were dumped in
the sea from the ship-breaking yard of Steel Industrials Kerala Ltd (SILK),
Azheekkal, leaders of the Committee against Ship-breaking alleged on Friday.
Grease, puff and waste oil were dumped in the sea on Friday in large quantity
from the unit, which was spread all along the coastal line from Azheekkal to
Payyambalam, they alleged.
Protesting against the incident, a meeting was held
at Neerkadavu near Azheekkal, which was addressed by social activists Rajesh
Warrier and M K Manoharan. Meanwhile, SILK unit manager P Manoharan brushed
aside the allegation and said that the protesters were levelling totally
misleading information in that regard.
