DHAKA, Dec 4 (BSS) - The Ship Breaking and Ship
Recycling Rules-2011 would be finalized by December 14, giving importance on
safety and security measurers of the workers, their risk management and
environmental aspects as well.
The Ministry of Industries would begin works in
formulating the ship breaking and ship recycling rules immediately after
finalization of the rules, said Industries Minister Dilip Barua here today.
Addressing a workshop at a local hotel, he said the
present government is going to formulate the rules giving the highest
importance on environmental aspects and risk management of the workers.
Presided over by Industries Secretary K H Masud, Chairman
of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Industries A B M
Abul Kashem and FBCCI President A K Azad also spoke.
Speaking on the occasion, the speakers said that
the government should take initiatives to make the shipbreaking industry a
modern one as over 30 lakh people are employed in the industry that supply raw
materials to over 20,000 light and medium industries in the country.
A large number of people involved in shipbreaking
industry, government officials, representative of different organisations
working with environmental issues, lawyers and members of civil society
attended the day-long workshop.
