Chief minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced setting up of a world-class Maritime Park on the seacoast of Bharuch.
Modi was speaking after inaugurating the insulation products manufacturing plant of Denmark-based Roxul Rockwool at Dahej SEZ in Bharuch.
“The Maritime Park will offer various training courses related to ship-building, breaking, ship-repairing, electrical, among others. It will become instrumental in giving shipping related training to youths and provide them employment,” he said.
Modi said that the future economy will depend a great deal of business along the sea-routes, and “Gujarat with its 1,600-km long coastline, is positioned very well to take advantage of it.
”The chief minister said that the state government would also setup a solar energy powered plant for desalination of sea-water, which will be then supplied for industrial use.
He also mentioned that the Dahej SEZ had been selected as one of the best 25 SEZs in the world. He described Dahej SEZ as Gujarat ’s Gateway to the world, with European companies like Rockwool making huge investments.
The manufacturing unit in Dahej SEZ is Rockwool’s first plant in Asia . It is a joint venture of Rockwool , Germany ’s KEFA, and Punj Lloyd. The plant, which has a 30,000 metric tonne per annum capacity, will cater to growing demand for insulation materials in the country.
“There is huge demand for insulation materials in power-plants, ships, refineries and chemical industries. We have entered India at the right time,” Peter Hoedemaker, Group’s CEO, said.
