It is reported that Mr Adem Simsek has been appointed as the new chairman of the International Ship Recycling Association during the association's 5th General Meeting on December 13th 2010 in Hong Kong .
Mr Simsek MD of Simsekler Ship Recycling Limited Co succeeds Mr Janice Liu Guohong, who has been chairman of ISRA for the past three years. Mr Li Hongwei of Changjiang Ship Recycling Yard has been elected as vice chairman of ISRA.
In his inaugural speech as chairman of the international ship recycling body, Mr Simsek thanked Mr Janice Liu Guohong of the Chinese Zhongxin ship recycling yard for her valuable contribution to ISRA both as chairman and as one of the founding members of the association.
Mr Adem Simsek said that as new chairman of ISRA he is delighted to continue leading the environmentally sound and safe ship recycling yards towards a greener world. He added that "I would like to stress the importance of a continuously improving process of ship demolition and waste management for all of us."
During this week’s ISRA General Meeting in Hong Kong a fast ratification of the IMO Hong Kong Ship Recycling Conference was advocated as a minimum standard to go forward in ship recycling. The members reconfirmed their efforts in protecting the environment and ISRA said it would continue their efforts in convincing ship owners to bring their end of life ships to ISRA members if they want to have insurance that their ship is being demolished in a proper green way.
